Aluminum overhead cables are used outdoors in distribution facilities. They carry the power from the utility lines to the buildings through the weatherhead. Based on this particular function, the cables are also described as service drop cables.
The NF C 11-201 standard´s procedures determine the installation procedures for low voltage overhead lines.
These cables are NOT ALLOWED to be buried, even in conduits.
AS/NZS 3560.1— Electric cables – Cross-linked polyethylene insulated – Aerial bundled – For working voltages up to and including 0.6/1(1.2)kV – Aluminum conductors
IEC 60502-1—Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages from 1 kV (Um = 1.2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV) – Part 1: Cables for rated voltages of 1 kV (Um = 1.2 kV) and 3 kV (Um = 3.6 kV)
Cables for overhead power distribution systems mainly for public distribution. Outdoor installation in overhead lines tightened between supports, lines attached to façades. Excellent resistance to external agents.
